A special Curriculum
The Cavendish School offers a broad, balanced and personalised curriculum designed to allow all students to achieve to the very best of their ability. Our focus on English and Maths means that by the time they leave The Cavendish School our students have achieved standards well above the national average. We have embraced the new English Baccalaureate and our provision for the Arts and Sport is particularly good. The Curriculum at The Cavendish School is continually under review. More detail about each subject can be found on our VLE pages
The school is made up of five faculties, each led by a Director of Learning and Deputy, and supported by Lead Teachers. Students are taught by specialists who not only bring a secure knowledge of their area but also an enthusiasm and love of their subject.
How will you know what progress your child is making?
Your child’s academic progress is monitored by continuous assessment and regular teacher assessment in all subjects, as well as modular and unit tests through the year in all subjects. This allows teachers to track your child’s learning and plan to meet their needs as well as making sure that students are in the right groups and work is differentiated at the right level for all students to succeed. Progress Leaders and The Guidance Team provide supporting data and further mentoring.
Reports on your child’s progress are produced regularly during the year. These include full written reports, Progress Profiles, a Tutor Evening and Subject Evening. Parents and carers are invited to attend the tutor and subject specialist evenings during the year where relevant information on progress can be gathered. Areas of concern can be raised by the school or the parent at any time and an interim statement of progress prepared, or an interview arranged with staff.
Our reward system allows the students either to purchase items through the school shop to support their learning further or, as they progress through the school, it allows them to gain access to a range of activities, including our Dinner Dance for Year 11 students.
