SEN & Inclusion

SEN and Disability Arrangements

The Cavendish School believes in equality of opportunity in an inclusive and supportive environment.  We recognise that every student has individual learning needs. Sometimes students may need additional support from our well-qualified and caring Learning Support Team, whose staff provides a wide range of expertise, help and guidance to meet the specific or general learning needs of students. The SENCO has a specialist qualification as a teacher of dyslexia (RSADipSpLD).

Staff work with students in a range of ways including one to one support, in-class support and small group withdrawal as appropriate. The team monitors the progress of students with care and works closely with parents and outside agencies, including Educational Psychologists, Social services, Education Welfare and Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS)

The Cavendish School is committed to promoting positive participation in the life of the school.  We believe that disabled children and adults are uniquely placed to support the school in identifying and removing the barriers they face and in taking proactive steps to promote disability equality across the school.

All student admissions are dealt with in the same way whilst having due regard to the needs of specific individuals. Timetables are established which provide a broad and balanced curriculum, meet statutory requirements and comply with adopted policies. The school does have some facilities that offer access to most areas of the building. However, due to the age and nature of the building, at present the school does not have specialist facilities to cater for all levels of disability. Timetables will be organised appropriately according to the disabilities of the students as they come into the school, to provide them with the wider access possible.
